Sutra Fragment, Section of Issai-kyo (Complete Collection of Scriptures)

This fragment of a sutra may be part of a set of five thousand scrolls commissioned by retired Emperor Toba in the early twelfth century. The calligraphy, written on indigo-dyed paper, is executed in meticulously balanced standard script in columns of seventeen characters.
