This festive gathering, which shows ladies in boats picking lotus flowers, still occurs in China today. Beijing hosts a lotus festival each summer, when the pink and white blooms fill lakes with spectacular color.
To the right, an official and his female companion watch from a pavilion, waited on by attendants and entertained by a small troupe of women musicians.
