Seated in a magnificent residence are the great soldier-statesman Guo Ziyi (697–781) and his wife. Famous for his frugality and humility, Guo had eight sons who all held important official positions. By the time he retired at age seventy-two, Guo headed a household of three thousand and was seen as the embodiment of a successful life.
Auspicious Decoration
This depiction of three generations of a family represents the Three Blessings: happiness, longevity, and many offspring.
