Leda and the Swan

Nicolas de Launay (French, 1739–1792) After a painting by Jean-Baptiste-Marie Pierre (French, 1714–1789)
The god Jupiter seduced the mortal Leda by assuming the form of a swan. Here the sinuous curves of Leda's body and the swan's neck harmonize beautifully with the oval shape of the composition.
