Square Shawl

c. 1813 (Borders)
Artist/maker unknown, Indian
The botehs - bunches of flowers gathered into a sort of teardrop shape design with an overhanging, pendent tip - on this shawl are distinguished by the sparseness and strong horizontals of the floral fill and by the red and blue flame-like elements at their bases. The yellow border color is not original but was painted on with dye when the shawl was remodeled.
