Long Shawl

This shawl, patterned with alternating narrow and wide stripes, is made from a length of jamawar, a cloth originally intended for use in a garment. Striped shawls with this design were often made in Europe. Indian, Persian, and European examples were fashionable in Europe and the United States during the 1830s and 1840s.
