Tureen in the Form of a Duck

1756-1770
Made by De Vergulde Blompot (The Gilded Flowerpot), Delft (1654–1789) Under Pieter Verburgh (active at De Vergulde Blompot (The Gilded Flowerpot) 1734–1789)
When Delft potters tried to imitate Chinese figurines of animals and birds from the Kangxi period (1662-1722), they were most successful in representing known domestic animals. This tureen was likely one of a pair, each resting on a separate tray. The Dutch often used such pairs of small tureens as table decorations.
