Vessel with Blue Glaze

Kimura Yoshiro (Japanese, born 1946)

For this piece, Kimura used a special tool to carve a rippling pattern, called renmon, into wet clay to simulate water. Cerulean blue suggesting the sky merges into the sapphire purple-blue color of the sea, and both flow into the deep cobalt pool at the center of the vessel.
