Rebecca Rutstein’s work explores the intersections between art, science, and technology that emerge from her interest in geology and marine biology. In this drawing, repeated honeycomb-shaped forms are stretched and compressed to create a sense of depth on the two-dimensional sheet. This practice of depicting three-dimensionality through line recalls topographical drawings, which render the altitude of terrain, including that found on the seafloor, through contour lines.
