The blustery effects of a snowy winter day are captured in this wood engraving. Clare Leighton used bold dashes of negative space in the upper right corner to suggest rapidly falling snowflakes, and the swirling lines of steam emerging from the chimneys reflect the strong wind accompanying a storm. In the foreground, a line of figures shoveling is seen clearing a path through the park. Their hats and long coats indicate the chill in the air while their dark forms contrast with the freshly fallen snow.
