Jamie Summers worked in San Francisco as a tattoo artist, a sculptor, and in art to wear before moving to New York in 1982. This jacket includes decorative elements she sculpted in clay as well as Japanese printed patches featuring superheroes. The complex narrative on this jacket is explained in the artist’s handwritten statement in the lining, reading in part:
The Earthbound Man lies within the main disc of the milkyway and its spiral arms. Starfields, clusters, clouds of gasses and dust compose the galaxy which his solar system moves. Earthbound man is acquainted with only one stratum held together by the all powerful gravitational force—Suspended in space—
