Inspired by the textures and elasticity of stockings and knitted fabrics, the designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec developed this chair with a stretchy knitted polyester upholstery slung over a metal frame. The result ingeniously offers both comfort and support to the sitter, and its relaxing effects inspired its name. The organic, rounded form recalls postwar Modernist chairs of the 1950s, translated through technological advances into a contemporary aesthetic.
