The Table

1910
Pablo Ruiz y Picasso (Spanish, 1881–1973) Written by Max Jacob (French, 1876–1944) Printed by Eugène Delâtre (French, 1864–1938) Published by Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, Galerie Kahnweiler, Paris
Max Jacob and Pablo Picasso were close friends early on in Paris, and Jacob appears as the figure of the friar in the Museum's painting Three Musicians (1921, Philadelphia Museum of Art, 1952-61-96) by Picasso. This book exemplifies how Picasso often collaborated with writers in his circle as an illustrator. The illustration here also shows Picasso's transition into what came to be known as Analytic Cubism.
