Memories can become hazy with the passage of time. Lê, a Vietnamese political refugee who fled the country in 1975 when she was only fifteen, explores this aspect of memory in her photograph of the misty landscape of Ba Vi.

She took the photo the first time she returned to Vietnam, nearly two decades after she left. Of the experience, Lê states, "Over the years, disconnected from the place and with only a handful of family pictures available, I had come to construct my own notions of a Vietnam drawn mostly from memories, but also from photojournalism and Hollywood films."
