Settling in Manhattan in the 1920s, Viennese-born designer Paul T. Frankl dedicated himself to creating a new contemporary style rooted in European modernism and infused with American spirit. His most celebrated success came with his line of Skyscraper furniture, which evoked the iconic stepped pyramid of the 1920s skyscraper that had become synonymous with the driven, aspiring culture of machine-age America.
