1996
Vincent D. Smith (American, 1929–2003) Published by Brandywine Workshop, Philadelphia
Jonkonnu (sometimes spelled “Junkanoo”) is an annual carnivalesque celebration that may have originated in Jamaica and other Caribbean islands, although variations are also held in areas of the southeastern United States. Usually held around Christmastime, the festival blends African and English traditions of masquerade, mimed performance, parading, and dance.
