Sunburned GSP #140 (San Francisco Bay)

2007
Chris McCaw (American, born 1971)
To make this picture, Chris McCaw placed photographic paper directly into his camera and pointed it at the sun, leaving the shutter open for many hours. The intense light and heat produced over the duration of the exposure scorched the emulsion. Here, the word sunburn describes both the photograph’s subject matter and the physical damage sustained by a piece of gelatin silver paper.
