Michikawa Shōzō (Japanese, born 1953)

Michikawa made this vase by molding cut clay, creating an appearance quite different from the other ceramics in this gallery, which were formed on a potter’s wheel. The rough and twisted shapes and energetic surface of the piece emphasize its origin in slabs of earth.
