Tea Bowls

2006
Kwak Hoon (Korean, born 1941)
Although trained as a Western painter and known for working in the style of Abstract Expressionism, Kwak uses a traditional theme and frequently employs traditional techniques in producing the works in his Tea Bowls series. This series is perhaps the best known of the artist's creations since the 1980s. To produce these works, Kwak experiments with various materials including pencil, acrylic, oil, paper, canvas, and clay, and as a result the pieces are extremely diverse, ranging from small paintings to gallery installations.
