The Hygeist

c. 1842-1853
T. H. Jones (British, active c. 1836–c. 1855) Made for British College of Health, New Road, London Printed by Dean and Co. Printers, Theadneedle Street, London
The makers of Morison's Pills claimed that there was only one disease, impurity of the blood, and one cure, Morison's Pills. In this print from The Hygeist, a monthly broadsheet published by the British College of Health, they contrast the "Truth of the Hygeian System" (top) with the "Fallacy of the Organic Theory of Doctors" (bottom), likening the opposing systems to two trees. The flourishing specimen treated by the Morisonian system drains its roots of all impurities, whereas the tree under the care of conventional physicians is full of decay.
