Bowl with Lid

19th century
Artist/maker unknown, Chinese
This bowl was produced with a technique called lai nam thong, or “gold wash,” in which the artist outlines the enamel decoration with liquid bright gold. The cartouches alternately show heavenly beings called norasingh, which are half-man and half-lion, and theppanom, which are reverential figures.
