Bust of Louis XV

c. 1745
Made at the Rue de Charenton manufactory, Paris (1743–1788)
This bust of Louis XV (King of France from 1715 to 1774) shows the ruler wearing a cuirass—body armor that protects the torso above the waist—and a ribbon of the “Ordre du Saint-Esprit” (Order of the Holy Spirit). This figure was probably modeled on one of the several busts of Louis XV by French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne (1704-1778).
