19th century
Attributed to Wang Shimin (Chinese, 1592–1680)
Wang Shimin served as a high-ranking official at the court of the emperor in Beijing. In 1639 he retired to his large country estate, where he amassed a famous collection of classical paintings and became a patron of the arts. Most of his own paintings date to after his retirement to the literati life, reflected in this idyllic autumnal scene of a retreat in the mountains.
