S.a Giustina in Prà della Vale

c. 1736-1737
Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal) (Italian (active Venice, Rome, and England), 1697–1768) Dedicated to Joseph Smith (British (active Venice), c. 1682–1770)
The Prato della Valle (Prà della Vale in the Venetian dialect) is an enormous grassy square in Padua, the major city on the Brenta River. The two separate plates of this etching form a continuous image, which Canaletto emphasizes by extending the cloak of the central figure on the left sheet beyond the framing lines.
