The painter Jean-Baptiste Le Prince's five-year sojourn in Russia provided him with a repertoire of Russian-inspired subject matter that he mined for the rest of his career. After perfecting his own process of aquatint in 1768, Le Prince used the medium extensively to replicate his own drawings.
