Sauceboat (one of a pair)

Workshop of Paul de Lamerie (English (born Netherlands), 1688–1751)

During the Elizabethan era in England (a period of peace and prosperity associated with the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, from 1558 to 1603), shallow saucers were used on the table generally for dipping meat and bread. By the end of the seventeenth century, however, saucers had been replaced with vessels such as this one, which is much deeper and has two handles and spouts.
