Cordial Glass

c. 1750
Artist/maker unknown, English or Irish
This glass is part of a set that originally included two decanters and twenty-four cordial glasses. The bust of William III that appears on this piece seems to derive from a 1705 medal by John Croker that celebrated the Treaty of Ryswick (1697). On signing the treaty, Louis XIV, king of France, acknowledged William III as the king of England. The set was handed down in the Maylor and Lindsay families of County Cork, Ireland.
