Sweetmeat Glass

c. 1735
Artist/maker unknown, English
Large-stemmed sweetmeat glasses were intended to hold dry sweetmeats that could be eaten with the fingers: nuts, biscuits, chocolates, or dried and fresh fruits. They stood in the center of an arrangement of smaller sweetmeat glasses that contained wet items more appropriately consumed with a spoon.
