Toasting Glass

c. 1700-1750
Artist/maker unknown, Dutch?
In the mid-eighteenth century, glassmakers often made the stems of toasting glasses thin enough to be easily snapped in a dramatic gesture after the delivery of a toast. As a result of this practice, very few toasting glasses of the period have survived.
