Woman's Long Dress and Jacket

1956
Designed by James Galanos (American, 1924–2016) Sold by the Tribout Shop, John Wanamaker, Philadelphia Designed for Galanos Original Beverly Hills
Philadelphia-born James Galanos made clothing of the highest quality in his Beverly Hills workrooms, as this dress shows. The chiffon skirt, with three flowing layers beautifully gored from waist to wide hem, is--unexpectedly--topped by a halter of wool flannel. The donor wore this dress with a matching wool jacket to her son's wedding in Switzerland in 1956.
