Goblet

c. 1760
Artist/maker unknown, English
The Granby may have been one of the many British privateer ships that in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries were fitted out by their owners as private men-of-war to cruise the seas in search of the enemy. Such ships were particularly active during the Seven Years War (1756–63), and their adventures were often commemorated on drinking glasses.
