Design for a Festive Chariot

1600-1608
Attributed to Cigoli (Lodovico Cardi) (Italian (active Florence) 1559–1613)
This sheet records a design for a ceremonial vehicle, ephemeral by nature and possibly intended for an aristocratic wedding, with allegorical figures that may have been either plaster sculptures or live actors in costume. The bell-like form surmounting the proposed apparatus could have served as a fancy umbrella to protect musicians seated below.
