Standing Female Figure Dressed in the Antique Manner

1549-1554
Girolamo da Carpi (Girolamo Sellari) (Italian, 1501–1556)
Girolamo, a painter and architect active in Bologna, Modena, Ferrara, and Rome, was known for his drawings after the antique. This sheet-perhaps recording an ancient female statue with an eccentric hairstyle, or perhaps depicting a fantasy figure-may have belonged to a sketchbook compiled by Girolamo after his move to Rome in 1549.
