Soup Plate

1791
Artist/maker unknown, Chinese, for export to the British market
This soup plate, part of a larger service, bears the coat of arms of Chadwick quartering Malvesyn and is inscribed on the reverse with the words "Canton in China 24th Jan'y 1791." Although dates appear occasionally on armorial porcelain, this is the only known Chinese service dated in this manner.
