Some of the lavish books made in Nepal during the 1700s consisted of sheets like these indigo-dyed examples. Instead of binding them together at the spine, the loose pages were pinched together between two wooden planks.
While most of the pages are inscribed with a Buddhist religious text, a few also display elaborately painted Buddhist deities, as seen here.
