Versailles - Bosquet de la Colonade (Versailles - Grove of the Colonnade)

1904
Eugène Atget (French, 1857–1927)
This delicate print, a duplicate from the same negative as Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2001-62-244, demonstrates the potential of the albumen process. At the printing stage, Atget was able to modulate tonal contrasts. Here, he emphasized the shadow in one print more than in another, resulting in strikingly different effects from the same negative.
