Mid- 17th century

Attributed to Franciszek Smiadecki (Polish or Russian (active England), active c. 1664)

Of Polish or Russian descent, Smiadecki is thought to have trained with Alexander or Samuel Cooper, two highly regarded English miniaturists of the mid-seventeenth century. Worked in oil on copper, Smiadecki's large-scale miniatures evoke full-size portraits with their carefully defined hair and facial features.
