Woman's Shoes

Although these shoes have a higher vamp (the upper portion that covers the instep and toes) than many mid-nineteenth-century women's slippers, they are typical in other ways: they are made without a right or left and with a narrow, heelless sole. Shaped silk medallions above the square toes feature delicate chain-stitched violets.
