I Am Beautiful

Auguste Rodin

French, 1840 - 1917

Image 1 of 31 / 3

Rodin conceived these two figures (known separately as The Falling Man and The Crouching Woman) for The Gates of Hell. United and named after a poem by Charles Baudelaire (French, 1821โ€“1867), this group is found near the top right side of The Gates. Joining seemingly unrelated figures to create new compositions was a common practice for Rodin, allowing him to discover the rich possibilities of his existing forms.
