This preparatory sketch, showing the founder of the Dominican order being carried to heaven, is for one section of a vast ceiling fresco in the church of the Gesuati, which the Dominicans rebuilt starting in 1726. Tiepolo received the commission for the ceiling early in 1737 and had completed the project by May of the following year.
