Southeast Asian Ceramics

January 3–February 6, 1977

From January 3 to February 6, the Museum was privileged to play host to the first major exhibition of Southeast Asian Ceramics ever presented in the United States. Installed in the Special Exhibition Galleries by Curator of Far Eastern Art Jean Gordon Lee, the exhibition included 109 of the finest examples of Khmer, Thai, and Vietnamese ceramics dating from the 9th to the 17th centuries, on loan from museums and private collections. The exhibition was originally assembled for Asia House Gallery, New York, by the eminent collector Dean F. Frasché, who is also a member of the advisory committee for this Museum's Department of Far Eastern Art and a generous donor of objects to its collections. In conjunction with the exhibition here, Mr. Frasché was a guest lecturer in January.
