Someone's in the Kitchen: Culinary Design Objects from the Collection

Drawn primarily from the Museum's design collection, this exhibition features objects created for use in the preparation of food. Grouped by function—mixing, measuring, storage, and heating—the objects illustrate some of the creative approaches designers have taken to these utilitarian objects as well as how changes in technology, materials, and lifestyle have influenced their design.

Two highlights are The Mini Kitchen—a compact mobile kitchen containing a range, refrigerator, drawers, cutting board, can opener, and knife box—designed by Joe Colombo (1930–1971) in 1963, and Erika Kitchen—a system of brightly-colored wall panels with brackets for holding utensils, a small sink unit, and a fold-down shelf—designed by the firm of Storno Design (established 2003) in 2004.
