Gifts to Mark a Century: An Exhibition Celebrating the Centennial of the Philadelphia Museum of Art

The Museum's centennial anniversary culminated in the impressive exhibition Gifts to Mark a Century, held in the Special Exhibition Galleries from February 18 to March 20. The more than 500 works of art received as gifts in celebration of this important milestone were the result of months of effort on the part of Museum curators, members of the Board of Trustees, and many friends, spearheaded by the centennial Gifts Committee under the chairmanship of Henry P. McIlhenny, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The exhibition, installed by Assistant Director for Art Arnold H. Jolles and Curator of Medieval and Renaissance Decorative Arts David DuBon, ranged from European masterworks of painting to American furniture and decorative arts, as well as treasures from India and the Far East. Commemorating this generous outpouring of gifts was a lavishly illustrated catalogue.
