David DuBon joined the staff of the Philadelphia Museum of Art as Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts in 1958 and became Curator of Medieval and Renaissance Decorative Arts in 1966. He retired in 1985 but continued his affiliation with this institution as a Consulting Curator until his death in 1986. Over the course of his career, many important works were acquired for the Museum's permanent collection, the most outstanding being the great suite of "Constantine" tapestries designed by Peter Paul Rubens and Pietro da Cortona, which is displayed on the balcony of the Great Stair Hall. The intriguing acquisitions made by David DuBon, the highlights of which are the subject of this exhibition, demonstrate his broad range of interests and extraordinary connoisseurship. Along with his publications and exhibitions and the redesign of the Medieval and Renaissance galleries in 1976, they provide a fitting reminder of his many contributions and enduring dedication to this Museum.
