Emmet Gowin is unquestionably one of the master photographic printmakers working today. This retrospective exhibition of 120 photographs will survey Gowin's career. He began in 1965 with works that depicted his preoccupation with the intimate circle of his family. The photographs evolve into confronting issues that involve "the changing earth" such as Mt. St. Helens after its eruption in 1980 and the ancient city of Petra, Jordan which was destroyed in 363 A.D. His later photographs contain the earth as seen through aerial views depicting munitions storage, power plants, water treatment plants and farmland in the United States. Emmet Gowin: Photographs will include as well new prints by the artist that will be shown for the first time.
