Experience the grandeur and theatricality of the Baroque style. See how painters and sculptors of the 1600s incorporated dramatic forms and subjects into their work.

The paintings, sculpture, and furniture in this installation were created in Flanders (modern-day Belgium), Italy, and Spain. The Baroque was an international movement, one propelled by artists who traveled, by multinational trade, and by wealthy patrons. The church and European rulers in particular found in the Baroque a means to symbolize their power and majesty.
