Andrew Wyeth and the American Landscape Tradition

Coinciding with Andrew Wyeth: Memory and Magic, this exhibition draws upon the Museum's extensive holdings of American landscape paintings and photographs. It showcases a wide range of artworks, from the modernist paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe and Marsden Hartley to works by local artists such as Chester County's George "Frolic" Weymouth and the celebrated Pennsylvania Impressionists of Bucks County—Daniel Garber, Edward Redfield, and Walter Elmer Schofield, among others. Andrew Wyeth and the American Landscape also includes depictions of rural life by Grant Wood and Edward Hopper, artists who directly inspired Wyeth. One of the highlights is Clifford Ross's Mountain IV (2005), a magnificent mountain scene made using inventive computer technology, which demonstrates the continued importance of the landscape genre in contemporary American art.

The Museum is also showing Andrew Wyeth in Context in the Dorrance Corridor to the American Art wing, just outside of the exit from the Wyeth exhibition store. This exhibition features a number of paintings and works on paper from the collection, including still lifes and landscapes that resonate with Wyeth's extraordinary vision.
