London-based artist, poet, and filmmaker Julianknxx presents Chorus in Flight – a sonic performance created in collaboration with a local Philadelphia-based choir, as part of the programming for The Time Is Always Now: Artists Reframe the Black Figure. Drawing from West African traditions of oral histories, Julianknxx explores the richness of diasporic traditions, uncovering themes of community, memory work, laughter, loss, and joy.
In this performance, The Time is Always Now serves as a space to engage with voices, feelings, memories, and histories of the Black and African diaspora. Working as a catalyst for reflection and deep listening, Julianknxx invites us to reconsider the presence and representation of Black peoples, and how we hold space collectively.

About the artist:
Julianknxx’s work merges his poetic practice with films and performance; he engages in a form of existential inquiry that at once seeks to find ways of expressing the ineffable realities of human experiences while examining the structures through which we live.
In casting his own practice as a ‘living archive’ or an ‘history from below’, Julianknxx draws on West African traditions of oral history to reframe how we construct both local and global perspectives. He does this through a body of work that challenges fixed ideas of identity and unravels linear Western historical and socio-political narratives, attempting to reconcile how it feels to exist primarily in liminal spaces.
