Gender in Kabuki Actor Prints

Thursday, June 22,
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. EST

Join Mace Tanseco and Rex Yin from Philadelphia Asian and Queer and curator Monique D’Almeida for a discussion of the installation Scandal & Virtue: Staging Kabuki in Osaka Prints and explore the presentation of gender in Kabuki actor prints. Learn about this classical form of Japanese theater, in which men to this day continue to perform both male and female roles. How does it differ from our perception of performing gender today? And how can these prints inform how we think about gender?
