Let your creativity soar at the Philadelphia Museum of Art! Explore a wide range of interactive programs designed for families with children ages 3–12. From large scale Special Family Events to intimate gallery tours, families can discover the world of art together.

Family Programs

The Philadelphia Museum of Art offers plenty of Family Programs that allow children and parents to learn, create, and most important, have fun together. All programs and events are free. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Visitor Services Desk.

Family Gallery Tour (Best for ages 6–10)
Tour meets in the West Lobby at the Family Cart.

Drawing in the Galleries (all ages)

All family members can drop in anytime to sketch, doodle, or create a masterpiece in the Museum galleries. An artist is on hand to provide materials and encouragement.

Let your creativity soar at the Family Studio, a family destination where people of all ages can drop in and create together. Projects explore art on view in the Museum—come back again and again to discover the whole collection.

Family Celebrations

Family Celebrations showcase local and nationally recognized performance groups for an experience that combines the magic of the visual and performing arts. The Balcony Studio features art projects inspired by artwork in the Museum's collections.

Spring Festival at Mount Pleasant Plantation
Sunday, May 18, 2014
10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Spin wool into yarn, create colorful dyes, and enjoy sheep-shearing demonstrations in celebration of spring. Buses to Mount Pleasant in East Fairmount Park will depart from the Museum’s West Entrance every twenty minutes beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Children's Art Classes

Museum teachers guide children through fun and informative experiences in the galleries followed by hands-on projects in the studios. Children in Ages 3-4 and Ages 3-5 classes must be accompanied by an adult (who attends free) for the gallery portion of the class. All children must be toilet trained. No experience is necessary, and all materials are supplied. Class size is limited. Pre-registration is required, and fees are nonrefundable unless the Museum cancels the class.

The spring session of art classes begin the week of April 21, 2014. You may register your child by phone or in person at the Museum’s Visitor Services desks for the Spring semester beginning March 25th at 10:00 a.m. To register by phone, call (215) 235-SHOW (7469). A nonrefundable service charge for each space reserved is added to all phone orders (member $2.50, nonmember $3.50). There is no service charge for reservations made at the Museum.

Tuition assistance is available upon request.

Art Splash

This summer (June 27–September 1) the Philadelphia Museum of Art's main building will be transformed into a hot spot for kids and their grown-ups.

All summer long families can "Meet the Masterpieces" as ten treasures from the Museum come to life through gallery explorations, studio art creations, and imaginative play for visitors of all ages.

Family Art Workshop
Location: Education Studio I
Kids ages 6+ with an adult
Reservations required
$10 per person plus General Admission ($8 members)
Space is limited. Tuition is non-refundable.

Roll up your sleeves and enjoy creative time as a family. Workshops include gallery conversations followed by collaborative art-making in the studios. Projects change weekly and explore a wide variety of media.
